Are you writing to be read or writing to get paid?

If you only want to be a writer to make money and have some kind of status, then stop right now. It doesn't really work that way. Very few writers make a living from it, most will be working at the same time. Most writers I know are also lecturers, they write for newspapers, for magazines and all other places. They are not full-time writers because if they were, they wouldn't be able to pay their bills.
Write because you love it, because if you don't then you feel like you might explode. Write to be read and enjoyed, not to just get paid. Your writing will be better because you actually care about it.
